Profoundly Disappointed

"He who trades essential liberty for temporary safety deserves neither liberty nor safety."

I hate politics. I stir myself to talk about it only rarely, but I do believe in the above statement, and I have been increasingly unhappy with the direction the american government has been taking over the past decade and more. You know, I was hoping, really hoping that at least this election year I could vote for a candidate I honestly thought would make a difference instead of the lesser of two evils. Stupid me. u.u

As if the FISA Amendments Act passing wasn't bad enough:

"The U.S. Senate this afternoon passed the FISA Amendments Act, broadly expanding the president's warrantless surveillance authority and unconstitutionally granting retroactive immunity to telecommunications companies that participated in the president's illegal domestic wiretapping program. The House of Representatives passed the same bill last month, and President Bush is expected to sign the legislation into law shortly."

Barack Obama voted in favor of it.(screencap w/ highlight) And while he has spoken out about his position on the matter, it comes off more as political doublespeak than anything else. John McCain didn't even bother to show up for the vote. I don't know why I was expecting more... Epic Fail. Career politics for the lose.
